Curious? We hope so! Here are some of our more common queries; however, please feel free to email or phone us with any others that you have. We are only too happy to help. How can I contact Sunshine Coast Coastal Walks?
You can email, phone, fax us or post something to us. Our contact area has all the details.
Can’t I do these walks on my own?
Of course you can. But we make it easier for you to do it!! We will pick you up at your holiday accommodation, start you on your walk with an easy to follow map, highlighting some of the points of interest along the way, provide you with a guide (for guided walks), provide you with morning or afternoon tea (or voucher for morning or afternoon tea) and pick you up at the end of your walk and return you to your accommodation or to the start point of the walk if you have left your car there. If you would like to spend 2 or more days at one accommodation venue and 2 or more at another and you book your accommodation through us, we will transport your luggage from one to the other for you if you require.
What footwear should I wear?
We recommend good, comfortable walking shoes/joggers. For those walks where some beach walking is required, you may want to take off your shoes and walk barefoot or with sandals. For these walks, it is recommended you carry a small, lightweight towel for drying your feet when the time comes to put on your walking shoes again. Small quick-dry, light-weight towels are available for purchase from SCCW.
What clothing should I wear?
All walkers should wear clothing that provides sun protection, a hat and apply sunscreen.
Do I need a backpack? Will there be plenty of water en route? For the shorter walks you do not need a backpack unless you want to carry some personal possessions. Waist-bags with water bottles are available for purchase from SCCW. These have 3 small zippered compartments in which you could carry some cash and very small items. SCCW provides each walker on the first day of the walk only with a 500 ml drink bottle. As there are taps at regular intervals along most of the walk, these can be continually refilled. Where there are long stretches without taps, you will be advised in advance to refill your bottle. For longer walks and those walks where you need to carry your morning tea/afternoon tea, a light backpack is recommended. If walking with another person, one pack between two may be sufficient. Can I have a swim along the way? Of course!! And for those hotter months this is a refreshing way to cool down for the next leg of your walk or at the end of your walk! Walkers should only swim at patrolled beaches between the flags. SCCW will advise walkers of these beaches. Quick-dry, light weight towels are available for purchase through SCCW. Do I need to be really fit? The walks are all fairly flat, with only three small hills around the headlands along the whole distance of the 26.8 km. These walks aren’t designed to set personal bests; rather, they are designed to be leisurely with time to take in the beautiful coastal scenery. You should, however, choose the distance/s that you know you will be able to walk comfortably. If you have any concerns about being physically able to complete the walk, you should consult your doctor beforehand. How far will we walk each day?
You can choose to do one single walk, with distances ranging from 6-7 km upwards. For those who want to complete the entire walk, there are four options also ranging from 6-7 km per day upwards. There are a number of choices for you in terms of daily distances. View Walking Options.
What happens if the weather is not the best?
Sunshine Coast Coastal Walks has no control over the weather and all walks will proceed irrespective of the weather. Ponchos and rain jackets will be available for purchase if required.
What are the cancellation details for the walks?
You can view our cancellation details here.
What happens once I pay for my walk/s?
Once you book and pay for your walk/s and advise us of the address of your accommodation (or where we will pick you up from – this is required within three days of the departure date of your first walk), we will advise you of the pick up time. All morning walks start between 7 am – 8.20 am (depending on time of year) and afternoon walks are from 1.30 pm onwards. For those arriving at the departure point for the walk by your own means, we will advise you of the departure time and specific address.
No responsibility will be taken for non-advice by you of your pick-up address. SCCW also requires all walkers to be waiting outside of the pick-up address on time and will not look for, or wait for, those not waiting as arranged. Walking with kids Sunshine Coast Coastal Walks welcomes families to the walks. If you are interested in including your children in the walk, however, please be mindful of whether or not they will be able to walk the distance. The SCCW mini-bus does not have room to carry bikes, scooters or prams. A discounted rate for children under 12 years of age is available on request. How long have we been organizing the walks?
Sunshine Coast Coastal Walks is a new business. Being walkers ourselves and living in Caloundra, we recognized the benefit of having an organization that could transport walkers to and from specified departure points along the coastal pathway, enabling walkers to couple a relaxing beach holiday with a purposeful and enjoyable walk. There is a real sense of accomplishment when you finish the full 26.8 km and know you have walked the entire Coastal fringe from Bells Creek to Point Cartwright. The single walks are also a nice way to spend a few hours on one morning or afternoon of your holiday.
What is included in the price for my walk? See price inclusion section
What is not included?
At your own expense will be any food or drink purchased on top of the voucher amounts provided, personal spending on souvenirs, etc. Where a walker decides to make his/her own way back to accommodation venue on completion of walk (ie does not wait to be picked up by SCCW), the walker is responsible for the cost of doing this. It is expected that the walker (if self-guided) will telephone SCCW to advise of his/her intentions of doing this. What type of accommodation can be arranged? See Accommodation Can you customize the walk for our own group? SCCW welcomes the opportunity to customize a walk for your own group. Please contact SCCW with your requirements.
